A Guide to Retrofitting Historic Buildings for Sustainability
As sustainability consultant for Grosvenor’s award-winning 119 Ebury Street, the UK’s first Listed Building to achieve BREEAM ‘Outstanding’ for its proposed design, we’re as experienced as we are passionate about the potential for retrofitting historic buildings.
In 2013, we assisted the City of Westminster in producing a Retrofitting Guide for Historic Buildings, partly based on work previously undertaken for the City Council by Eight Associates.
Westminster is particularly rich in historic buildings; three quarters of Westminster housing was constructed prior to 1915. The City Council is working to help shape a sustainable city with its vision for the sensitive and appropriate refurbishment of historic buildings, incorporating features of sustainable design. The Guide takes a detailed look at appropriate measures, considers the consents that might be needed and includes case studies (for both listed and unlisted buildings). It is definitely worth a read.
