Background:
Emma is joint Managing Director of Eight Associates and has been with the team since 2007.

On achieving a BSc in Environmental Science at the University of Southampton, Emma went on to complete an MSc in Environmental Management for Business at Cranfield University. Emma is a licensed BREEAM Accredited Professional (AP), BREEAM Assessor and Code for Sustainable Homes Assessor.

Emma has broad experience of providing environmental assessments on a range of both large and small projects, with a particular focus on educational and community-based developments. Emma has a background in sustainable planning and planning policy, which has afforded her a keen understanding of local, regional and national planning regulations, legislation and sustainability related plans and policies.

In her spare time, Emma is the Chairman of a local theatre company. When not organising everyone else, she also enjoys baking cupcakes and catching up with friends and family.

Background:
Stacey is joint Managing Director of Eight Associates. Stacey has a wide range of ecology experience gained working within the consultancy, local authority, charity and education sectors. She has experience of completing ecological surveys, overseeing ecological assessments and can offer advice and guidance throughout the development process. She is a full member of the Chartered Institute of Ecology and Environmental Management (CIEEM).

Stacey has implemented varied habitat creation projects and subsequently compiled management plans. She has experience writing wildlife policy and advising on the ecological aspects of planning applications from both an officer and an applicant aspect. Stacey is licensed BREEAM assessor and Suitably Qualified Ecologist for BREEAM assessments and can advise on the optimal solutions in achieving the highest possible levels of biodiversity.

Background:
Barbara started working life as a secretary which bored her senseless! While searching for another job, she liked the thought of helping people to find jobs themselves, so Barbara joined the Employment Service (Job Centre) to be an Employment Adviser, and then a Disability Employment Adviser. As the title suggests, this meant supporting people with health problems and disabilities in getting back into work. Barbara worked in various locations for over 20 years, after which she joined a Bedfordshire charity - Advocacy Alliance - to work as an advocate for people with learning disabilities, and also as a volunteer recruiter and trainer. This was very rewarding work, and Barbara only left to support her family business with sales and finance work.

After the business was sold, Barbara took the opportunity to support the Eight Associates team in administrative and financial capacities.

In her spare time, Barbara is a keen badminton player and also 'treads the boards' with a local theatre company.

Background:
On achieving a BA in Architecture at the University of Liverpool, Ed worked for a number of years as an architectural assistant, delivering Code Level residential schemes around the north west of England. Following this, he completed the two-year M.Arch programme, graduating in the summer of 2011.

Ed joined the Eight team shortly after completing his training to become a licensed BREEAM Domestic Refurbishment Assessor at the BRE and the Eco Refurbishment course at the Centre for Alternative Technology in Wales. He is a registered Engineering Technician with the Engineering Council and specialises in the technical issues surrounding sustainable retrofit including sustainability assessment, energy strategy, thermal bridging and condensation risk.

Outside of work Ed enjoys spending time with his family, catching up with friends far and wide and cycling the North Sea Cycle Route.

Background:
Rosie is a Sustainability Consultant at Eight Associates. She is a licensed Code for Sustainable Homes and BREEAM assessor, and specialises in all aspects of ecological survey and advice. Rosie completes ecological appraisals including extended Phase 1 habitat surveys and protected species surveys (bats & breeding birds) for a wide range of development sites, liaising with planning officers and advising on the best approach and timeline of ecological survey to ensure development timelines are met. Rosie produces ecological reports covering mitigation and enhancement and management plans, to be used for planning and in gaining BREEAM and Code for Sustainable Homes ecology credits.

Rosie holds a BSc in Biological Sciences from the University of Sheffield and an MSc in Environmental Sustainability from the University of Edinburgh.  

Rosie is passionate about sustainable development, conservation and ecology. She has spent time working abroad, on remote desert islands and jungle-covered hills, conducting research for conservation programmes and undertaking academic research.

Background:
Becky is one of Eight Associates BREEAM experts with a vast amount of knowledge of the methodology after previously working at the Building Research Establishment. Becky is qualified in BREEAM 2014 New Construction & Refurbishment & Fit Out for commercial and public sectors and is a qualified BREEAM Accredited Professional. Becky is also qualified to carry out Level 1 & 2 Flood Risk Assessments, and Floods and SuDS strategies for planning, in addition to supporting with holistic sustainability strategies for new developments and refurbishment of existing buildings.

Becky's background in sustainability and environmental issues, began when completing a BA in Geography at the University of Birmingham, where her interest in sustainability led her to continue her studies to carry out an MA in Sustainable Environmental Management at Middlesex University. Becky’s thesis for her MA took her to Bangladesh where she was involved in a collaborative project with the Flood Hazard Research Centre investigating community-based adaptation and resilience to climate change in coastal regions, witnessing first hand the impacts of climate change in a less developed area of the world.

In her spare time Becky enjoys baking and crafting, and likes to keep active by running and playing for her local netball team.

Background:
Chris is Technical Director at Eight Associates; he specialises in the provision of energy modelling, building analysis and energy strategy consultancy on projects of all scales, with a particular focus non-domestic developments. Chris is a licensed Non Domestic Energy Assessor and a Certified Energy Manager for the Association of Energy Engineers, and has a background in surveying and building services estimating. Chris has a Bachelors degree in Quantity Surveying and a Masters degree in Environmental Technology and Energy Policy from Imperial College London. During his academic studies Chris carried out research projects in lowering the environmental impact of the existing built environment.

Chris’ analytical works focus primarily on consulting to achieve low energy buildings and optimising occupant comfort within buildings. Moreover, he advises on building fabric engineering and design solutions to reduce thermal bridging, heat and ventilation losses and condensation risks. Chris is also responsible for delivering energy-auditing services for existing buildings and providing strategic advice to reduce energy consumption and carbon emissions.

Background:
Niccolò is one of Eight's building performance analysis consultants. He specialises in low carbon building design, supporting architectural teams with specifying the thermal conductivity of building materials, with a particular focus on thermal bridging and energy efficient heating and cooling systems. He undertakes both SAP and SBEM energy modelling to support the development of energy strategies and sustainability statements. He also provides Energy Audit and Energy Performance Certificates (EPC) as Domestic Energy Assessor. 

Niccolò holds a BSc and a MSc in Building Engineering from Marche Polytechnic University in Ancona, Italy. His dissertation reviewed the energy design of adaptive buildings using different dynamic thermal simulation tools. Niccolò volunteered in India with a non governmental organization committed to promoting child and maternal health by providing support to the medical needs of the most deprived people of West Bengal.

Background:
Blythe completed an MSc in Managing the Environment at Aberystwyth University in 2007. Prior to joining Eight Associates she worked within BREEAM at the Building Research Establishment, and completed an internship with the Zoological Society of London. Her interest in sustainable development began during the environmental assessment work at university.

Blythe is now combining her experience in both ecology and sustainable development as a Sustainability Consultant at Eight Associates. Blythe has also travelled to a number of countries in Europe to raise awareness of BREEAM and highlight the benefits of certification.

Blythe is a BREEAM Accredited Professional, and a LEED Green Associate. She has worked on a wide variety of building projects ranging from multi-residential care homes, schools, commercial buildings, hotels, and domestic properties.

Background:
Joanna is Lead Sustainability Consultant at Eight Associates where
she consults on a variety of work related to sustainability concepts and high performance building design. She specialises in the provision of environmental assessments on a both large and small-scale projects, being a licensed BREEAM Communities Assessor, LEED Accredited Professional and NCI trained Charrette facilitator. She is Eight’s specialist in communities and sustainability at the masterplanning stage. She also focuses on high level sustainability strategy work and working with large organisations to achieve their firm-wide sustainability aspirations. 

In her career to date, Joanna has contributed to a significant number of documents, all with the common goal of helping her clients achieve their sustainability goals through an enhancement of the built environment and associated social conditions. Joanna has experience in sustainability frameworks and strategy, green building certification, sustainability appraisal, and community/stakeholder engagement. She has worked extensively on projects pursuing LEED and Living Building Challenge Certification, as well as managing a third party LEED Review Team for the Canadian Green Building Council.

Joanna holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Biology and Geography as well as a Master of Science degree in Sustainable Development and Environmental Change, both from the University of Exeter.

Background:
Yiota is one of Eight's building performance analysis consultants. Yiota specialises in daylight and energy analysis on domestic and non domestic projects, required for BREEAM and CfSH. She also undertakes SAP and SBEM energy modelling, energy strategies, thermal bridging calculations, dynamic condensation risk analysis, thermal comfort analysis and low and zero carbon feasibility studies. Yiota is particularly passionate about daylight analysis reports and daylight and sunlight impact assessments.

She  holds a BSc and and an MSc in Architectural Engineering from the University of DUTH in Greece. She gained experience as an architect in Cyprus and then completed an Msc in "Energy Efficient and Environmental Building Design" at Lund University in Sweden.

In her spare time, Yiota likes to explore London, feeding squirrels and catching up with friends and family.

Rachel is an ecologist at Eight Associates and primarily carries out work to support planning applications and BREEAM assessments. She regularly carries out preliminary ecological assessments and Phase 1 habitat surveys, writing reports that evaluate sites’ ecological value and give advice on mitigation and recommendations to ensure the biodiversity is either maintained or gained. She also produces long term biodiversity management plans, to ensure that sites’ ecological features continue to flourish after completion.

She has an interest in bats and has carried out a number of dawn and dusk surveys; she is particularly skilled in identifying bat calls using analysis software. She hopes to obtain a Class 1 bat licence. Her passion for maintaining biodiversity in the UK stems from doing an MSc in Conservation and Biodiversity at the University of Exeter and a BSc in Zoology from the University of Bristol.

In her free time, Rachel plays the cello for a local orchestra and enjoys climbing and baking cakes.

Amy is a sustainability consultant with Eight Associates, specialising in delivering BREEAM assessments for a range of different building types, including hotels, industrial buildings, offices,• education, and retail.

Amy is one of Eight's BREEAM specialists, having worked at the Building Research Establishment (BRE) for six years within the International BREEAM sector. Amy has experience of working with a wide variety of building types, in many different sectors across Europe and worldwide.

Amy’s previous experience allows her to apply her in-depth knowledge of environmental assessment and sustainability awareness to all types of buildings. She also has a fundamental understanding of the regional and national policies and how these affect BREEAM assessments and can provide important advice to design teams to ensure requirements are met for the individual schemes.

In her spare time, Amy enjoys crafts, running (slowly), yoga and pilates.
