Eight Associates’ Yiota Paraskeva and Chris Hocknell delivered a well-attended daylighting ‘lunch and learn’ session this week at BRE.
Yiota and Chris used the thought-provoking session to compare and contrast BREEAM and LEED daylight assessment approaches, pitching the use of ADF (a well known daylight metric used by BRE and BREEAM) against sDA and ASE (which are more new developed daylight metrics used by LEED). Their presentation covered the latest best practice in daylight analysis – and how to audit these – and also explored the causes of glare and how to avoid glare.
There was an informed, lively discussion about how daylight analysis is conducted in real life, with a key ‘take away’ point about the need to assess daylight from the very early design stage, rather than the more common approach of daylight analysis being undertaken only for the planning application or at the end of the project because more credits are required for the assessment.
Chris and Yiota appreciated the opportunity to share Eight Associates’ view on the proposed BREEAM NC 2018 daylight credits – and of course, the importance of quality over quantity.
Eight Associates offers a range of building performance analysis, including internal daylight analysis, and daylight and sun impact assessment, in addition to BREEAM, LEED and Well Building Standard certification.
